Two forged knives in the elven style

Manufacturing difficulty: ★★★★☆

Production time: A couple of days

Materials at hand: ██████████ 100%

I decided to take up forging because of my love for edged weapons and at the same time for the world of fantasy films, games and books. Here's what happened =)

  • Spring
  • aluminum wire
  • Birch butt dice
  • Linseed oil
  • Lacquer for woodwork
  • angle grinder
  • Forge
  • Pliers
  • Hammers of various sizes
  • Anvil
  • Blacksmith chisel
  • emery machine
  • Sanding wheels in different sizes and grits
  • Vise
  • Sandpaper
  • Compass
  • Marker
  • Drill
  • Drills for metal
  • Wood drills
  • Electric jigsaw
  • Files for fine cuts
  • Riveting rod
  • Water bath
  • Brush
  • Burner

    preparations

First of all, it is necessary to clean our spring from rust, if any, using sandpaper manually or go over simple way and clean it of rust with an angle grinder or a drill. Next, you need to mark up the future blank of the elven blade, having previously made calculations based on what size of the blade we need, it is quite simple to calculate using proportions. And in the end, cut off a piece of the spring of the required size using an angle grinder, BUT it is important that you cut the spring only across, because if you cut it along, then there is a possibility that the future cutting part of the blade or butt will burn out.

Creating the basic shape of the blades

  • Along the workpiece was cut with a blacksmith's chisel by heating the workpiece. After dividing the workpiece into two approximately equal parts, he began to slowly shape it, i.e. began to "pull out" the workpiece, bring out the tip, handle, cutting part, butt, and so on.

Important! For various types of work, hammers of different sizes and with different shapes of the striker were used, so a small sledgehammer was used to pull the workpiece, to give a rounded shape to the butt and handle of a hammer with a spherical striker.

It is also important to ensure that the scale that forms when the metal is heated does not forge into the workpiece, because then bumps, dents appear, and the blade is likely to lose strength and hardness, the scale can be removed with a metal brush or a spatula, to whom how convenient.

Important! After the forging process, it is necessary to anneal and normalize, which means throwing your workpiece into the forge, burying it deeper in the coals and melting it to hell...

just kidding, of course, you need to throw and bury it, of course, but after turning off the air supply, this is all necessary for subsequent uniform hardening. This is what happened after a few hours of forging

    Locksmith 1
He processed blanks using a home-made emery machine on various abrasive wheels, emery petals. At this stage, I deduced the bevels of the blades, because I did not dare to outline them during forging, because the blanks were quite thin; brought out the final shape of the blades.

    Step 3 Hardening and tempering

Hardening was carried out using the same forge. He heated the workpiece to a non-magnetic state, which was checked using the most ordinary magnet, and heated it in mineral oil, which was heated to about 60 degrees to reduce the size of the vapor cushion. Vacation spent in an electric oven at 200 degrees.

  • This stage turned into a real torment, interesting, but still a bitch, because the blades turned out to be hard, difficult to process and at the same time terribly hot. At this stage, I made the final grinding and polishing of the blades, as well as their sharpening with the help of petal emery discs and felt discs using Goi paste, holes were made in the handles for future overlays (4 drills were "killed" during this process). In general, not a stage but a living hell, although not without a twist.

    Handle making

With handles for knives, I decided not to bother too much and made lining from a butt of birch, which was not the most best idea in terms of material selection, since a dry butt of birch cracks and bursts during processing. I had to work very carefully and for a very long time. The blanks were cut with a jigsaw, holes for riveting were drilled in them. After installing the overlays, what turned out for me, unfortunately, is not very good, since you sweat, i.e. extensions for the riveting head were cut too deep. Then I processed the handles with the help of petal disks and sandpaper until they were ready. And here's what happened in the end

Weapons in the world of Skyrim are divided into three classes: two-handed weapons, one-handed weapons and small arms. One-handed weapons hit quickly and deal medium damage, two-handed weapons are slower, but the damage from them is greater. Bow is a weapon ranged that shoots arrows.
    One-handed weapons include:

The mod adds a new set of Elven weapons to the game: one-handed and two-handed swords, daggers, bows and arrows. Basically all weapons are slightly faster (for example, arrows have less gravity than game ones). All weapons have a slight glow effect, except for arrows. The base is taken from the Elven Weaponry mod, but mixed with other one-handed and two-handed swords.

    Reason for creating this mod:
The old mod (Elven Weaponry) in version 0.05 became in HD textures, but no one saw the difference - only the size of the mod increased.
I intended to basically make sharper and more detailed textures, but with a much smaller file size.
I also decided to take weapons from the forge and distribute them to enemies around the world, and put them in chests.
I'm tired of the endless lists of items in the forge that only the player and companion can use.

    How to get a:
    1. Arrows can be crafted at the forge or found.
2.Weapons can be crafted at the forge or found on enemies (also in chests above level 20)
Also, if you are too lazy to search, you can get through

Attention! Keep in mind that the mod needs some time in the game before you can find items from enemies.
The best way is to wait 2-3 days for the mod to fully activate.
I tried to distribute items near populated areas, but you won't see any guards with these weapons.
