How to cook raisin compote for babies. Juices and compotes for an infant: when to give and how to prepare

In the first year of a child's life, the foundation of his physical health is laid. One of the most important milestones during this period is the organization of infant nutrition. Experts have long said that until 4-6 months of age, it is advisable to feed a baby exclusively with mother’s milk, since it is best absorbed by the immature gastrointestinal tract of a newborn, contains all the vitamins, macro- and microelements necessary for him in the required concentration, as well as maternal antibodies that protect the baby from external infections.

But the child grows quickly, actively develops, his body begins to produce new enzymes, so after 6 months it is not only possible, but also necessary to introduce new products into the baby’s diet, including drinks - teas, infusions, juices and compotes. In our article we will figure out when you can give compote to a child and how to cook it correctly.

When is it allowed to be included in the diet?

Many mothers are interested in how many months can a baby start giving compote? Healthy full-term babies can start giving compotes as early as 4 months. If a child suffers from a digestive disorder, for example, regurgitates a lot, poops frequently (more than 3 times a day), or his stool is too runny and green, then new drinks should be introduced into the diet later.

When creating a menu for premature or low birth weight infants, you need to approach it with extreme caution, and it is better to introduce compotes into their diet no earlier than 6 months.

For the first time, give your baby a teaspoon of fruit infusion. Wait a day. If a disorder does not appear and an allergic reaction does not appear, then you can increase the dose to 50 grams, and after a week, feel free to pour 100 grams of the drink into the bottle.

Pediatricians allow babies under one year to be given compotes 2-3 times a day, 100-150 grams, and after one year - in unlimited quantities

Important! You cannot completely replace water with compote, juice and tea.

What kind of compotes can you cook?

Now that you know at what age you can give your toddler compote, let’s look at the possible range.

First of all, apple ones. This is the best option for a baby. The first compote for a child under one year old should be made from green apples to prevent allergic rashes or diathesis.

Fruit decoctions from pears, quinces, and apricots are good. They are aromatic and very tasty. Children drink them with great pleasure.

You need to be careful with plums, as they are very weak, so plum compote for babies can cause digestive upset.

Dried fruit compote is also very useful for an infant. Just no exotics! Use the standard set - the same apples, pears, dried apricots, prunes, raisins. In this case, you first need to brew the so-called monocompote, that is, a drink based on one type of dried fruit (berries). And only when you are sure that none of the components cause allergies, you can safely brew compote from a set of dried fruits.

Many mothers believe that the healthiest thing is berry compote. Indeed, berry decoctions are rich in vitamins, including vitamin C. But cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants, cherry plums, and cranberries are strong allergens for the infant’s fragile digestive system. Therefore, in order not to provoke hives, it is better to cook berry compotes for a child aged one and a half to two years.

Recipes

We'll tell you how to properly prepare fruit compote for babies.

Apple

Compote for a child under one year old should not be strong, so take one large green apple (or two medium-sized ones), peel it, cut out the core, cut into slices and pour 0.5 liters of clean filtered water. Simmer over low heat for 15 minutes after boiling. Cool, strain through thick cheesecloth, and the compote is ready! As a rule, children are happy to drink this decoction without sugar, but if your baby likes sweetened drinks, then add a teaspoon of sugar to the finished drink. By the way, you can grind boiled apples in a blender, add vanilla sugar and offer applesauce to your baby.

Important! You cannot use honey as a sweetener, since all beekeeping products are strong allergens, especially for toddlers. Pediatricians strongly recommend starting to give honey to a child no earlier than two years of age! The first time the dose should not exceed the size of a pea.

Pear

The scheme is the same: peel a ripe, juicy pear, remove the core, cut the fruit into slices. Pour in 0.5 liters of water and boil for 12-15 minutes. Cool, strain and delight your baby with this new product.

Apricot

For 0.5 liters of water you will need 3 ripe apricots. Remove the seeds from the fruit and simmer for 15 minutes over low heat. After straining and cooling, you can give the compote to your baby.

For the most part, children enjoy drinking dried fruit compote.

Quince

Peel one large quince and cut into small slices. Boil in 0.5 liters of water for at least half an hour. Strain through thick cheesecloth. A fragrant and very tasty compote for babies is ready!

Classic dried fruit

Soak a handful of dried fruits in cold water for an hour. During this time, they will swell and be cleared of small debris. Then drain the water and rinse again under the tap. Pour 0.5 liters of cold water and place on high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 20 minutes. Strain the liquid from the boiled fruit and give the drink to your baby.

From dried fruits in a thermos

You will need a 200 ml thermos. Place 5-6 large slices of dried fruit in it, pour boiling water over it and leave overnight. In the morning, pour the infusion with swollen dried fruits into a saucepan, add another glass of water and boil. The compote is ready! Don't forget to cool it down.

Advice. It is better to buy packaged dried fruits of a pale shade, since bright colors indicate the addition of dyes.

From prunes

You will need ingredients such as dried prunes - 200 grams, sugar - 1 heaped tablespoon, filtered water - 1 liter. Pour hot water over the berries for about 5 minutes, rinse them several times, put them in a saucepan, add sugar and pour in water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then turn on the burner and cook the compote over low heat for half an hour. Cool, strain and offer to your baby.

Just remember that prunes are quite weakening, so a large dose may cause a child’s tummy to turn.

Berry

For 0.5 liters of water you will need half a regular glass of washed and peeled fresh or frozen berries. Cooking time: 15 minutes after boiling. But it is better to cook berry decoctions for a baby at 9-10 months.

Each recipe above is designed for a 6 month old baby. As you get older, you can cook more concentrated compotes.

Brief summary

Compotes are an important component of a baby’s diet. They are healthy and quench your thirst well. To avoid problems with digestion and allergies when introducing them into your baby’s diet, follow the following advice from your pediatrician:

  • you can introduce compotes into the diet of a healthy baby from 4-6 months,
  • the first compotes should be cooked from green apples at the rate of 1 large apple per 0.5 liters of water,
  • for the first time, give 1 teaspoon of the drink and observe the child’s reaction throughout the day,
  • up to one year, it is allowed to feed the baby three times a day with decoctions of fruits, 100 g at a time. After a year, compotes can be given in unlimited quantities, but without replacing water with them,
  • Berry decoctions can be offered to a child no earlier than 1.5 years.

Do everything right, and your baby will delight you with good health!

Your baby is growing up, and mother’s milk alone is no longer enough for nutrition. It is necessary to gradually prepare him for regular food and drink. The first such drink will be compote. The preparation of this product for children has its own characteristics, since not every fruit can be given to children. Apples are the most suitable. They are the easiest to prepare and are the easiest to digest during infancy.

It is already difficult for a mother to feed her six-month-old baby with one breast, so you can start giving the baby compote to drink

At what age should compote be given?

Your baby is six months old! Do you have a question about what to feed him in addition to milk? For example, are apples good for a 6 month old baby? Is his digestive system strong enough? If possible, then how much, how often, and from what fruits should it be made?

At 5 months the child was still too small to drink compote, but by 6 months he was already ready to accept it. Don't rush, first give him just a taste - a teaspoon. Look at the child’s reaction to see if he starts to swell or if an allergy develops. Gradually, by 7-7.5 months, increase the daily portion to half a glass. By 1 year of age, the volume can even reach a glass. It is not necessary to give it all at once - it is better to divide it into 2-4 doses. For such babies, it is better to make it from green-skinned apples - they are more hypoallergenic than red or yellow ones.

The benefits of compote

There is almost no vitamin C in the drink - it was destroyed due to heat treatment. However, other vitamins, pectins, minerals, antioxidants, and the same fiber remain.

The baby's compote increases intestinal motility, it is populated with beneficial microflora, which strengthens the immune system, helps cope with constipation, improves digestion, and prepares the child for solid food. If the baby has a deficiency of lacto and bifidobacteria, he cannot fight infections normally.

For the first time, you can give your baby only one or two spoons of compote. If there is no reaction, then gradually increase the portion of the drink

In winter and spring, there are practically no useful substances left in apples, so it is better to replace them with dried fruits and make a decoction of them. It’s good if they are dried not in the oven, but in the air, in the shade. Then there are more vitamins left in them, and the fruits will not dry out. Over-dried dried fruits give a bitter taste, which is unlikely to please the baby. You should drink compote made from dried fruits in the same volume as from fresh fruits. However, there are situations when drinking a lot is especially necessary, for example, in extreme heat or when a child is sick.

At this time, compote instead of water is given only to those children who are already accustomed to it. Then they will not refuse to drink it.

Cooking recipes

In summer it is very useful to make a drink from fresh fruits. Only if you start giving your baby new types of fruits, add one each time. He needs to get used to the product and taste that is unusual for him. There are different recipes for making compote, choose which one you like best.

Traditional way: Take a medium sized apple and wash it. Peel it and remove seeds, pour boiled water - about two glasses. Boil over low heat for 15-20 minutes. Add fructose - sugar can cause bloating, and honey is contraindicated for infants.

For children's compote, it is better to choose green apples, since such fruits should not cause allergies in the child

Try brewing a drink in a thermos:

  1. Wash a fresh apple, remove seeds and peel.
  2. Cut into slices of any size.
  3. Then put it in a thermos and fill it with boiling water.
  4. Close the thermos and leave it to brew overnight.
  5. After a few hours it will be ready - the apples will “arrive” by themselves.

The drink should not be hot. Before offering the drink to your baby, cool to room temperature and strain.

From dry apples

Apple compote for babies is also prepared from dry fruits. It is good because it has its own distinct taste, sweetish and aromatic, and it does not need to be sweetened with anything. Dry apples contain the same substances as fresh ones, and it is preferable to cook it when there are no useful substances left in fresh ones - this is winter and spring. There are also various recipes for this.

The traditional method is the simplest. Take a handful of dry apples and wash them thoroughly. Place in boiled water and leave for about 30-40 minutes until the fruit swells. They will remove particularly stubborn specks that always remain on the fruit when dried. Rinse them again, put in boiling water - about 1.5 cups, and cook over low heat for about half an hour. Then set aside and cool. Strain.

For compote, you can use fresh or dried apples (see also:)

You can brew uzvar in a thermos. Prepare the apples in the same way as in the first method. Place them in a thermos and fill them with boiling water. It needs to brew, so it’s more convenient to do it at night. If the compote turns out to be too rich, add a little boiled water to it. For two glasses of boiling water you will need 100-150 grams of fruit.

Just like when cooking with fresh fruits, you shouldn’t make it from a mixture of many dried fruits at once. Add them one at a time. The next ingredient after apples could be prunes. At first, do not mix both compotes, but give them separately. Start introducing your child to prune compote with one teaspoon.

From prunes

For some children who have digestive problems, acquaintance with prunes can begin as early as five months - just not a compote, but a drink made from prunes.

For a five-month-old baby, such a drink will be useful. It cleanses the intestines well and helps peristalsis. In any case, consult your pediatrician first. To prepare it, you need to take a glass of pitted prunes and a tablespoon of fructose (or sugar) per liter of boiling water.

Prunes in compote will help your baby with digestion

Dissolve fructose in water, then soak the prunes for half an hour and rinse them. Place in water and boil for 15-20 minutes until the berries are soft. After this, cool and strain the compote.

When the baby gets used to prune compote, you can give him apple compote with prunes. There will be no unpleasant reactions from him. This compote can be infused in a thermos, it will then come out even tastier. And then mix with fresh apples and other fruits.

Raisin compote

It is recommended to cook for a child from 8 months of age. You can cook it either as a separate compote or by mixing it with fruits your baby is already familiar with in any proportion. This compote is not stored for a long time; it is better to prepare it immediately before use. It is better to choose raisins from light varieties. To prepare you need:

  • a tablespoon of raisins;
  • half a glass of boiling water.

A portion of raisins must be sorted out and filled with cool water for half an hour so that they swell and all the debris that always accumulates in its folds is removed. There is no need to add sugar to the compote; the raisins are sweet on their own.

Rinse again, add boiling water and cook over low heat for 15-20 minutes. The lid must be closed. You need to start with a teaspoon, then increase to a full portion. The mother of a newborn baby should drink the same drink made from raisins - it will make the milk healthier and will help the baby in case of constipation.

By gradually adding new components to the compote, you will accustom your baby to a variety of drinks and food.

From dried fruits

The complex collection of dried fruits includes many components. It is worth making compote from dried fruits for a baby when he has already tried all the fruits separately. It’s good if it’s made from apples, pears, prunes and raisins - there are many options, you can combine them at your discretion. Dried fruits must be soaked in boiled water before cooking compote for babies. Fruits should be sorted to avoid spoilage.

You can make this compote in the usual way in a saucepan or steam it in a thermos. It is worth starting to give it from 7-8 months. Children usually do not get upset from raisins.

When the child gets older, you can make richer compotes, and at about a year old, start adding dried apricots. Together with raisins, it will give the dried fruit compote a natural sweetness, and will allow you to avoid adding sugar, which is best avoided until the age of three.

From the age of 12 months, a child can drink compote with almost all fruits. It is good to add honey instead of sugar as a sweetener. To exclude an allergic reaction, you should smear a drop of honey near your elbow. If after a few hours there is no redness in this area, you can try giving honey to your child, starting with a very small amount.

So gradually, starting with compotes, you can accustom your child to eating fruits and a variety of tastes.

Prunes are one of the most useful dried fruits in terms of their vitamin composition. It can be consumed both in its pure form and used for making homemade compotes. Prune compote for infants is an indispensable supplier of such important substances for the development of the child as fiber, pectin, vitamins (groups B, C, PP), minerals (sodium, potassium, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus).

When can you give prune compote to a baby?

You can give prunes in any form from the age of six months, when a healthy child should begin complementary feeding. But babies often suffer from constipation, and prunes are one of the best natural ingredients that can gently solve this problem. Homemade prune drinks can be given to a baby from three months a few drops at a time, observing his reaction to the new product.

It is not recommended to give prunes to a baby until the age of three months, but they can enrich mother’s breast milk: a nursing woman can use it to solve problems with and in a newborn.

What are the benefits of prune compote?

Using this dried fruit in a baby’s menu allows you to:

  1. cope with vitamin deficiency
  2. improve metabolism (due to high fiber content)
  3. remove toxins and waste from the body
  4. improve the child’s mood, have a positive effect on the nervous system (it is a natural antioxidant)
  5. prevent the proliferation of E. coli, salmonella
  6. strengthen the heart muscle

It is also useful to give such a compote because it has a bactericidal effect, thereby protecting the child’s body from pathogenic infections during epidemics. The properties of this dried fruit are especially appreciated in the prevention and treatment of constipation. Unlike many medications, it can be used during the neonatal period, it is not addictive and can rarely cause allergic reactions.

How to choose prunes

When it comes to preparing meals for children on their own, the process of selecting quality ingredients plays a special role. Using prune compote, you can either improve your baby’s health or harm him by choosing dried fruits of poor quality.

When choosing, pay attention to the following points:

  1. dried fruit should not be smoked: liquid smoke is often used for smoking, which is banned in a number of European countries and is a powerful carcinogen that provokes the development of malignant tumors
  2. the surface should be exclusively matte: for shine (and better presentation), the berries are treated with glycerin, synthetic fat, sulfur dioxide; such “additives” are a sure way to poisoning
  3. The color of high-quality prunes is black: when you see brown fruits, it means they have been doused with boiling water (deprived of most of the useful ingredients) or treated with caustic soda so that the prunes can be stored longer. Gray plaque on dried fruits is a clear sign of glycerin treatment
  4. there should be no bitterness in the taste; When you try prunes, evaluate their texture: it should not be loose, unpleasant to the touch, or with mucus.
  5. When immersed in water for half an hour, high-quality dried prunes develop a white coating; processed ingredients do not develop a coating; they quickly lose their shape and turn the water a dark, cloudy color.
  6. a quality product does not stain your hands when you touch it

Assessing the quality of dried fruits in original packaging is problematic. If you purchase goods by weight, choose trusted places and do not trust spontaneous markets where goods contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms may be sold.

Prune compote is an excellent alternative to drinks made from apples, pears, and berries. The attractiveness of dried fruits is that they can be used all year round.
