DIY laundry baskets. Do-it-yourself laundry basket: manufacturing methods

WE MAKE A LAUNDRY BASKET WITH YOUR OWN HANDS.

The eternal question of our housewives is where to fold dirty laundry before washing it? If you, like me, are not satisfied with the option of storing things in basins under the bathroom, I suggest building such a practical thing. How to make a laundry basket with your own hands? It turns out it's very simple. One of the simplest master classes is in front of you!

A laundry basket for the bathroom will consist of only a few parts. Here they are: a garden metal mesh (70 cm high), a wooden circle for the bottom, four wheels and fastenings with screws for them. The only tools that are useful are pliers and a screwdriver. Strong fabric and cord are suitable for interior decoration of the basket.

First you need to lay out the materials in front of you. The mesh needs to be chosen such a length that it can be wrapped around a circle once. Well, for the base for the basket you can use the seat of a wooden stool or a large wooden stand for pizza. When everything is ready, place a wooden circle on the floor and wrap a net around it. Excess mesh must be cut off using pliers or other tools.

The mesh is very easy to fasten: metal rods need to be twisted with pliers around the rods of the other side of the mesh. In this case, you should check that the fastening is reliable (that is, the mesh must be tightly fixed).

Under the bottom, the mesh needs to be wrapped, bending the ends of the mesh towards the center.

Now you need to secure the mesh to the bottom of the basket. The bent edges of the mesh form squares, which must be pressed to the wooden bottom with screws. We fasten the screw with the nut, fixing the mesh rod. The same thing needs to be done several more times around the perimeter of the bottom. It turns out 7-8 screws.

If you want the basket to be repositionable, make it maneuverable with small wheels. To do this, four wheels need to be evenly placed around the perimeter of the bottom and fastened with screws. Of course, it is better to choose wheels that rotate not only in two directions, but also around their own axis.

This is how the base of the basket turns out: a mesh with a bottom on wheels.

A DIY laundry basket is already quite functional. But in order to create not only a piece of furniture, but also its decoration, you need to make an inner cover for the basket. It is better to sew it from dense fabric like burlap or mattress fabric. Measure the height of the basket, then the radius of the bottom and cut out a suitable fabric cover. At the top of the cover you can make a cord fastener that would tighten the basket bag. Also, for beauty, you can turn the top edge of the bag so that it covers the ends of the frame rods.

A bathroom basket is a fairly simple and practical craft! Do this and your bathroom will live a new life!

Baskets for storing laundry are a useful and convenient interior detail that helps you maintain order in your home with your own hands. Of course, such baskets can be purchased at the store, but often you want to make something original, ideal in size and style, or simply save money. In this case, a DIY laundry basket will be an excellent solution to the problem. In this material you will find a selection of the most successful ideas that can be brought to life simply and quickly.

We weave a laundry basket with our own hands in a step-by-step master class

Stylish and durable baskets are woven from wicker and rattan, but these materials are not always available. Weaving from newspapers has become a fashionable and environmentally friendly trend. Things turn out to be quite durable and beautiful, and cost practically nothing.

To weave a basket, you will need sheets of newspaper, PVA glue, scissors and a thin knitting needle, a ruler and pencil, varnish, stain and any container that will act as a shape when weaving.

Tubes for a wicker basket are very easy to make: cut the sheets into narrow strips (about 7 cm), twist them onto a knitting needle at an angle of 30 degrees, and grease the corner with PVA glue. We take out the knitting needle, the tubes can be lengthened if necessary by inserting one into the other.

Let's start weaving the basket:
  • Take the first 10 tubes from the newspaper. We fold 5 of them parallel to each other.
  • Pressing with a ruler, bend the 1st, 3rd and 5th, apply a little glue to the 2nd and 4th and place the 6th tube on them.
  • Then we bend the even tubes and glue the 7th one.
  • Thus, we lay all 10 tubes.
  • We take one horizontal tube, turn it 90 degrees and begin to braid the rest of the tubes.
  • We continue to weave in a circle, gradually moving the tubes apart so that the bottom becomes round. We weave the bottom to the desired size and bend the tubes up.
  • Then you need to place a mold on the bottom and start weaving the walls of the basket. We braid the base tubes with a working tube. All elements can be extended as needed. We weave to the desired height.
  • At the end, we take the axial tubes, alternately intertwine each one with the neighboring one, and bend it inward. We cut off the long ends and hide them in intertwined rows.
  • We grease the finished basket of newspaper tubes with PVA glue, paint it with stain (you can also use paint), and coat it with varnish.

We make a version of a fabric basket with a wooden frame

This is a folding fabric basket that can be easily removed if necessary, and it will take up very little space. The size of the basket can also be adjusted at your discretion.

To work you will need:
  • Narrow wooden slats, 60 cm long – 4 pcs.
  • Tubes made of plastic, wood and metal - 2 x 36 cm and 2 x 40 cm.
  • 8 small bolts and 2 large ones with nuts.
  • A cut of cotton fabric with synthetic additives for strength.

Wooden blanks can be coated with varnish or paint, after cleaning the surface.

Then we cut out the fabric and sew a basket resembling a bag. It would be interesting to look at a lining of a different color.

We sew narrow strips of fabric or ready-made ribbons (ribbons, straps) into the seams of the bottom of the basket. You can sew either by machine or by hand. If the fabric crumbles, the edges must be hidden inside or processed.

We trim the top edge with ribbon and sew on buttons so that the bag can be hung on a wooden frame. This way it can be easily removed and washed.

The frame for the basket can also be made of plastic or plywood.

Basket of plastic bottles:

Another lightweight, durable and affordable material is plastic. Laundry baskets are usually placed in the bathroom, so the stability of the item in a damp area will be an advantage of such a basket.

To work, you will need a sufficient number of bottles and a cardboard box as a form for weaving.

First you need to make blanks from plastic bottles. To do this, cut off the bottoms and necks of the containers; they will not be needed. However, you don’t have to throw away bottle caps; you can make interesting crafts and panels from multi-colored caps.

We cut the remaining parts of the bottles into strips in a spiral (ribbons, 1 solid ribbon from one bottle). If it is difficult to cut even strips, you can cover the plastic with adhesive tape and cut along it.

A form for weaving a basket can be made from cardboard box, turning it upside down. It is convenient to secure the tapes to the base with clothespins. First we braid the bottom of the box, then the walls in a circle. We take out the box and wrap the ribbons. The basket is ready!

Clothesline basket:

This stylish rope basket can be used not only for dirty and clean laundry, but also for toys and other bathroom accessories. To work, you will need the simplest plastic form; you can even take a new wastebasket (you can find it in a household or office supply store) and a glue gun. The shape can be any, not just round. If you wish, you can crochet a lid for such a basket.

Turn the plastic basket upside down and gradually wind the rope to the very bottom of the mold. The glue can be applied at intervals of 1 cm. To make the basket look more attractive, we make several turns of rope from the inside at the top (a few centimeters are enough).

You can make a basket out of twine in the same way. Twine is also used for weaving, so you can use it to make a basket like the one you see in the photo:

Newspaper basket

It’s easy to make a basket for dirty laundry with your own hands, all you need is:

  • Newspapers;
  • PVA glue;
  • Scissors;
  • Ruler;
  • Pencil;
  • Thin knitting needle;
  • Shape;
  • Stain or varnish.

Making blanks

After this, it remains to strictly follow the instructions:

  • On a sheet of newspaper we mark stripes 7 cm wide.
  • Cut out the resulting strips.
  • A thin knitting needle is laid on the strip from below. The angle should be approximately 30 degrees. Next, the newspaper strip is wound onto a knitting needle.

Important! Be sure to keep the tube tight. One end should be thinner than the other.

  • Apply glue to the corner of the strip.
  • All that remains is to pull out the knitting needle.

Important! You need to make a lot of these tubes to make the basket of sufficient size.

The laundry basket for the bathroom is woven from long tubes with your own hands, so the prepared pieces need to be connected to each other. This is done as follows: a drop of glue is dripped into the wide side of the tube, then a second tube is inserted with the narrow side.

We weave the bottom:

  1. We lay out five tubes and press them on the right side with a ruler.
  2. We lift up tubes No. 1, 3 and 5.
  3. Apply glue to the remaining tubes, one drop at a time.
  4. The sixth tube is placed on top of the glue and pressed.
  5. We lower the workpieces that were raised up.
  6. We lift up blanks No. 2 and 4, apply glue to the remaining ones.
  7. The seventh tube is glued in the same way as the sixth.
  8. We repeat the steps until ten tubes are glued together.
  9. We turn the corner end of the tube 90 degrees and weave it with five tubes.
  10. We weave in a circle, moving the pieces apart so that the bottom has a round shape.
  11. After the bottom is completed, lift the tubes up and insert the mold inside.

We weave the main part:

  1. When braiding the shape in a circle, the tubes are passed alternately above and below the base tubes.
  2. When the tube ends, the next one joins it.

After the required height has been woven, the edge needs to be formed.

Edge decoration:

  1. Any tube is passed through the adjacent one and bent inward. A loop is formed into which a piece of the workpiece is inserted.
  2. We repeat the steps with all the basics.
  3. If very long ends remain, they need to be trimmed.
  4. PVA glue is applied to the resulting basket.
  5. After the glue has dried, paint or stain is applied.

Important! Using newspaper weaving, you can make not only a simple laundry basket with your own hands, but also a flowerpot, a vase and other interior items.

Basket in the form of a bag

And for those housewives who know how to sew, a DIY laundry basket made of fabric will be quite feasible. But here, to make a design for a bag, you will need a man’s help.

Making the base

In this case, you will need to prepare:

  • Bars 60 cm long – 4 pcs.;
  • Holders 30 cm long – 4 pcs.

Operating procedure:

  1. Using a bolt and nut, we connect two bars in the shape of the letter X.
  2. We perform the second same figure.
  3. The holders are attached to the bases using nails.
  4. The structure is processed using sandpaper and varnished.

Sew a bag

How to make a laundry basket with your own hands? Follow the plan:

  1. We take measurements from the frame and cut the fabric. For sewing you will need five parts: four identical ones for the sides, one for the bottom.
  2. All parts are connected from the inside out and stitched.
  3. Turn the bag inside out and iron the seams.
  4. To make loops, the fabric is folded in thirds and stitched.
  5. Loops are attached on four sides of the bag.

The resulting basket is very convenient to use.

Basket of bottles

Plastic bottles are an excellent material for crafts. This material is lightweight, durable and moisture resistant. After collecting the required number of bottles, we get to work:

  • We get rid of the bottom and top of the containers.
  • We cut the strips, while cutting in a spiral.

Important! To make the work easier, you must first apply an adhesive plaster to the bottle.

  • We lay the box, which will be the form, bottom up. We attach the strips using clothespins.
  • Alternating stripes, weave the bottom.
  • We bend the sides of the strips up and continue weaving in a circle.
  • After reaching the required height, we insert the remaining strips into the finished canvas.
  • We take out the box that was used for the base.

rope basket

A DIY rope laundry basket is a great option for those who love creativity. To make it you will need to prepare the following materials and equipment:

  • An ordinary plastic laundry basket;
  • Cotton rope more than 5 mm thick;
  • Thermal gun.

We proceed in the following order:

  • We glue the rope from the top of the container, then go down in a spiral.

Important! The rope must be pressed well, otherwise you will have to redo everything all over again.

  • When the sides are ready, move the rope to the bottom. We continue to glue the material in a spiral.
  • The upper edge of the product is decorated with edging, which can be made from fabric 3-5 cm wide.
  • The design dries for a day and is ready for use. If desired, it is possible to make an inner cover from fabric.

Important! When making a fabric cover, it should be taken into account that its edge should protrude beyond the basket. This way it will be more convenient to secure it. In this case, the cover is first inserted into the container, secured with an elastic band, and then a cotton cord is glued.

Using the same instructions, you can make a laundry basket from a box with your own hands.

Cardboard basket

For those who want to decorate their home, a DIY cardboard laundry basket is one of the best and simple options. For this you will need:

  • Cardboard box of suitable size;
  • Thick fabric in several colors;
  • Glue;
  • Cord or rope.

Operating procedure:

  • Cut off the top sides of the box.
  • Cut a square of fabric slightly larger than the bottom. Usually use light-colored fabric. Glue the fabric to the bottom of the box inside.
  • We cut long strips, which should be enough to cover the inner walls.

Important! To prevent the fabric from getting dirty during the gluing process, it needs to be rolled up. Unroll little by little as you apply glue to the surface.

  • Cut out squares from dark fabric for the outer walls of the box. We glue the fabric onto two of them, while the edge on top is bent and glued to the inner light fabric.
  • Another strip of fabric is cut, which should be enough to wrap the two remaining sides and the bottom. Sticks carefully.
  • Using a knife, cut out holes for the handles.
  • The rope is threaded through the holes and secured from the inside with knots.
