State higher educational institution was formed in 1930 in accordance with the order of the People's Commissariat of Education of the Supreme Council of National Economy of the Ukrainian SSR No. 552 of 08/04/1930 on the site of the school of shoe specialists FZO No. 2. Until 1935 it was called shoe-mechanical college and had in its composition two divisions - technological and mechanical.


During World War II, the technical school was moved to Novosibirsk. After returning from exile, the activities of the university resumed, at first the material base was formed, the range of training of specialists increased, the institution was awarded the name Kyiv Shoe College.

In 1952, another hostel was created on the street. Chigorin, 4, where all the students of the technical school had the opportunity to live, on the floor on the second floor there were sewing workshops. At the same time, training in the qualification "Sewing production" takes place.

In 1955, a new educational building was opened on the street. I. Kudri, 29, today's actual address, and the technical school changed the sign to Kyiv College of Light Industry.

The growth in demand for the chemical industry led to the formation in 1956 of the latest qualification "Technology of artificial and chemical fibers", and in 1958 - "Equipment for chemical fiber enterprises" and "Creation of footwear and decoration of leather".

Taking into account the needs of the historical period, since 1963 the technical school has been teaching in the categories "Creating and designing clothes" and "Equipment of clothing factories", and since 1966 for the first time between all technical schools "Planning at light industry enterprises" and since 1969 "Accounting accounting".


In 1958, one of the leading technical schools in Ukraine launched work on the social rehabilitation of disabled people, and professionals are being trained for the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf (UOG).

From 1971 to 1994, the technical school trained specialists for Mongolia, Cuba, Laos, Afghanistan, Bolivia, Jordan.

In 2011 received another accreditation, forms specialists at four faculties of full-time and part-time education in the following qualifications:

The number of students is 925 people. All professions are characterized by a certain educational, methodological and material staffing. The college contains in its arsenal 1 working hostel and 1 in the process of construction, the main structural branch is training and production workshops.

Currently, the college is the only educational institution in Ukraine with I-II qualification levels, which forms specialists in a unique profession - Shoe Design. The college provides education to students with handicapped, among them: hearing impaired - 129 people; disabled children - 11 people.
