The family stopped living in poverty, since handicrafts brought in a good income, but then fate deals the family another blow - a fire. Everything acquired through back-breaking labor burned down. To survive, Nastasya decides to sell the box, and a buyer is found instantly. It turns out to be the local clerk Parotya, or more precisely, his wife and former mistress of the young master Turchaninov. But the jewelry was too big for the clerk’s wife.
Meanwhile, Turchaninov, having decided to inspect his Ural property, left St. Petersburg and appeared in Polevaya. I looked at the purchase of my former lover and wanted to talk to the former owner.
