Creation of a basic enterprise

For tactical support of operations, an innovative rifle was required that corresponded to the class of the best foreign models. The Promtekhnologii group of companies acted as an investor in the creation of the Orsis enterprise, whose mission was to design the Russian T 5000 sniper rifle. The Orsis enterprise (Weapon Systems) implemented a full production cycle: from the manufacture of all parts to the assembly of the rifle itself.

One of the factors in the technological advantages of Orsis was the use of innovative high-quality stainless steel alloys. However, this was not enough. After all, the best sniper rifles in the world owe much of their precision characteristics to barrel rifling.

A short and strenuous path was chosen: immediately go to industrial cutting of the barrel. Russian gunsmiths have switched from mandrel shaping to single-pass trellis planing using a CNC machine. Such machines were created with the help of German and Swiss specialists and components. The developers did not reinvent the wheel. The starting point for the creation of Russian threading machines was their British analogues for single-pass cutting. Their “brain and heart” was a unique CNC from Promtekhnologii. As a result, a new technology was born in which the deviation from the basic accuracy does not exceed two microns.

The barrel of the new sniper weapon is equipped with longitudinal valleys, providing additional rigidity and cooling. An important part of the created weapon is a three-chamber muzzle brake-compensator developed in-house by Orsis. When sniping over long distances, it comes unfastened, thereby increasing the firing range.

Bolt group. Two rifle options

The T 5000 carbine belongs to the “tactical rifle” class. And modern tactics, as already mentioned, involve sniping both at medium distance (400-500 m) and at long range (about 1 km).

In connection with the above, the designers proposed two basic options. The first (medium-range) used a standard bolt group designed for a standard 7.62 mm cartridge. The second option (long-range) is characterized by a longer bolt group serving the 8.58 mm Magnum cartridge.

The increase in sighting range was achieved by increasing the caliber of the cartridge to 8.58 mm by 69 mm.

Another constructive achievement was that Russian T 5000 sniper rifles have increased operational safety. The rifle is ergonomic, provides a low level of recoil and, importantly, the sight remains on the target after the shot. The latter is important in order to see the result of the shooting, because the rate of fire (20 rounds per minute) allows you to fire an additional shot to kill.

Design and performance characteristics

The design basis for the T 5000 rifle is classified as a multi-shot bolt group equipped with two front combat lugs. It is equipped with a longitudinally sliding rotary bolt, barrel and trigger mechanism made of stainless steel. The metal parts of the weapon are made as matte, the coating is wear-resistant, blued (Cerakote), developed by NIK-Industries.

What did the official presentation of the newly created T 5000 show? The high-precision sniper rifle officially demonstrated its combat properties for the first time in the fall of 2011 at the VIII International Arms Exhibition in Nizhny Tagil. The demonstration was performed by Dmitry Semizorov, a sniper shooting specialist recognized in Russia and the world. The targets were located at 540, 300 and 100 meters.

The test shooting results were more than successful. The shooting center strictly coincided with the center of the target. Design

The rifle barrel is cantilevered, thick-walled, with flutes and a four-chamber muzzle brake-compensator. Made of stainless steel, the rifling is obtained using the mandrel method.

Design

The Orsis Se barrel is made of 416 R stainless steel. It is 698.5 mm (27.5 inches) long and has a muzzle diameter of 22 mm. (Here we are talking about a model for the Lapua Magnum 338 caliber). On the outer part there are longitudinal valleys that facilitate the device, maintain structural rigidity and serve for cooling. A three-chamber compensating braking device is located in the muzzle. It “extinguishes” up to 50% of the recoil energy when fired. The barrel is equipped with 4 or 6 (based on the caliber) rifling, giving the bullet a rotational movement along a stable trajectory, ensuring accuracy in shooting and a higher flight range. Processing is carried out using the method of one-time longitudinal planing with a trellis. This is a longer method than burnishing, but higher quality and more reliable; the service life of the barrel is approximately doubled. The manufacturing accuracy is 0.002 mm.

The shutter is a longitudinally sliding rotary type made of stainless steel. The large housing is designed to increase the durability of the device. “Emergency” openings are provided for the release of powder gases when they are released from the cartridge case or chamber. The bolt design, consisting of two stops, a cup, an ejector and a spring reflector, allows the shot to be fired silently and quickly, which is important for sniper work. Rear end The shutter is equipped with a special fuse with three modes, which allows you to continue operations while on or completely block the trigger and shutter. The trigger mechanism works with different forces (0.5-0.9 kgf) for its release. This allows you to fire with light pressure, which significantly improves its aim.

The stock of the T-5000 sniper rifle is made of light alloy aluminum D16T. All metal surfaces of the rifle are covered with a cerakote ceramic coating, which significantly increases the durability of the weapon and eliminates the reflections of sunlight. It has several colors, ranging from classic black to olive. The configuration of the handle, which, like the “cheek,” is made of highly durable plastic, does not allow the hand to touch the metal parts of the weapon, which undoubtedly provides the shooter with comfortable shooting in any weather conditions. In a short time after its release, the T-5000 managed to receive several modifications aimed at maintaining ease of shooting. There is an elongated forend pad that allows you to fire from all positions.

The Promtekhnologiya company recommends installing Russian optical devices from Daedalus or American ones from Night Force on the T-5000. The Picattini type rail allows the use of various optics. The domestic high-precision sniper rifle ORSIS T-5000 is amazing in every sense. Take, for example, this detail: the entire ORSIS plant is financed with money from private entrepreneurs - a unique case for Russia. In addition to the release of sports and hunting weapons, the enterprise has a whole line of special weapons for the needs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB. The T-5000 precisely belongs to this “special weapon”.

Firing range and caliber of guns

The Russian rifle is based on an original stainless steel bolt, which is available in two versions for different calibers - 7.62x51 mm and 8.6x71 mm. The maximum firing range depends on the caliber of the cartridge and the size of the bolt mechanism; for the first it is 800 meters, and for the second it is up to one and a half kilometers.

The US product has a custom caliber 300 Winchester Magnum 7.62x67mm. On the one hand, the increased size of the ammunition gives a greater (but still less than the T-5000) firing range, about 1200 meters. But this advantage is completely offset by the increased brightness of the flash when fired, because a sniper rifle is, first of all, a weapon hidden from prying eyes and it’s simply stupid to unmask yourself with her.

Accuracy

The “high-precision” feature mentioned in the name of the T-5000 was added for a reason. In terms of accuracy, the T-5000 surpasses all domestic and the vast majority of foreign analogues.

The calculations take an indicator called “minute of angle” (MOA) - this is the accuracy of shooting from different distances in the absence of wind. MOA equal to one indicates that the weapon has a shooting accuracy of about 2.9 centimeters when shooting at 100 meters. If the indicator is less than one, then the weapon can be called sniper or precision. Now imagine that ORSIS has this figure of less than 0.5 MOA. At the same time, XM2010 has much lower performance - by test sites accuracy was about 1 MOA.

First in everything

The T-5000 stock, which serves to connect all parts and make the rifle easier to use when shooting, is made of an aluminum alloy with increased wear resistance. The trigger mechanism has interesting feature- you can set several for the trigger different types required force, from 500 to 1500 grams. The cartridges are fed by magazines of 5 and 10 pieces, respectively.

The rifle was designed to minimize the physical recoil for the shooter when fired, for which purpose the “knockover” effect of the weapon was reduced. Russian designers also took care of those who like to hunt “from their knees”, for which a plastic handguard was installed for convenient holding of the rifle.

The T-5000 weighs from 5.8 to 6.2 kilograms, which is less than the American XM2010 and all other foreign rifles.

The receiver has a Picattini type rail, which allows you to install almost any sight on the T-5000, for example, the wonderful domestic Daedalus with a movable reticle and the ability to use at night. For the manufacture of the barrel, trellis planing technology is used; it does not allow the rifle to be produced in cosmic quantities, but it takes its toll on quality; such a barrel will last up to two times longer. The XM2010 uses a different method, the so-called "mandrel", which is less expensive for the enterprise, but requires more frequent replacement of the barrel due to its wear. Experts know that burnishing takes 10 seconds, while planing takes an hour.

The XM2010 is made from a combination of aluminum and plastic and is coated with an anti-corrosion coating. It has only one magazine option - for 5 rounds. The only possible advantage of the XM2010 is the Advanced Armament Corp. removable muffler. According to its manufacturer, the muffler suppresses fire by 98 percent and suppresses recoil by 60 percent. True, one has to take these characteristics solely on faith, because this muffler is not available for free sale in the USA.

The T-5000 can be purchased in a special civilian version, intended for sport shooting and hunting. The rifle is scheduled to enter the Russian armed forces in 2014. The XM2010 has been entering service with the US Army since 2010. There is information about its use in Afghanistan and Iraq, with problems traditional for American weapons - sand and not the best adaptation for extreme military conditions.
