The cellular operator Megafon offers its subscribers many very useful options, one of which is the Locator service, which has a fairly wide range of capabilities. "Locator" helps to determine where the subscriber is, but this option can be used only with the consent of the subscriber, who is supposed to be monitored. This option is very useful for parents to be able to determine the location of the child at any time.
Service management
The option is available to any subscriber of the Megafon network. Data about the location of a certain subscriber comes to you via SMS, which indicates the name of the settlement, streets and other landmarks. In the same message you will receive a link to go to the map of the area where the desired subscriber is located. In order to more accurately familiarize yourself with the location of the subscriber, you need to follow the link sent through the phone browser, then you will see the area surrounding the person you are looking for, and his exact location will be marked with a circle. To manage the service, you need to know several commands:
- As already specified, for such tracking, you need the permission of the subscriber, who will have to add your number to the access list.
- If you need to delete a number from this list, then in the SMS you need to indicate the number to be deleted with a minus sign, i.e. like this: - 79 ***********. You can do this by sending a message to the number 000888 with the following content: +79*********.
- To view the list of phones that are allowed to determine the location, send LIST or L to 000888.
- To delete a list, the message is sent with the word CLEAR or C.
If you get lost and need to clarify your own location, then the "Locator" option will help with this. You need to send a request *148# (Where am I service) and press the call button, then you will receive a message with data about your location.
How to connect "Locator"
To receive the option, you need to send a message with the number of the desired subscriber to No. 0008888 or send a USSD request *148*Number of wanted subscriber#.
Price
The price of a USSD request with the number of the person you are looking for will cost 6 rubles, but if the request is made using an SMS message, then 5 rubles will be deducted from the account.
Option features
In some situations, it is not possible to determine the location of another person. This usually happens when:
- If the wanted person has a switched off telephone;
- When the designated number does not have such an option as SMS messages;
- If the person you are looking for is outside the network access area.
Sometimes there are problems with the accuracy of determining the location, which depends on many parameters such as the features of the Megafon network, on the indicator of territorial coverage, on the signal strength of the wanted phone and network stations. As a rule, the accuracy of the determined location is approximately 0.1-0.5 km within the city and about a kilometer on its outskirts and between settlements.
In the event that the location of the wanted person is limited to a small town or village, the option will provide you with a link to go to the map and data with the name of the settlement. Since the signal of cellular operators is weaker in mountainous areas, there is also an error in determining the location of the wanted person.
