The ORSIS T-5000 rifle is a high-precision bolt-action sniper rifle manufactured by the ORSIS arms factory of the Moscow industrial group Promtekhnologii. Currently ORSIS SE T-5000 is used by units special purpose Ministry of Internal Affairs and Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The ORSIS SE T-5000 rifle was created for universal use - hunting and sports, the task was to achieve ambitious goals: to provide exceptional shooting accuracy, a high level of comfort for the shooter in the process of preparing a shot, in the phase of a shot and recoil and a quick return of the rifle to the aiming line, high reliability and ergonomics, including transport. Each of these tasks is divided into subtasks, and some of them are in conflict with each other, however, as a result of the joint efforts of shooters and designers, it was possible to create a product with very high performance. At the beginning of June 2012, the team of Directorate "A" of the Central Security Service of the FSB won the international competition police and army snipers (Police & military sniper world cup) using T-5000 rifles from ORSIS.
Technology
A rifle is a geometry, the more accurate all the components of the rifle and the quality of the final assembly, the higher the accuracy and controllability of the weapon during the shot. The barrel is obtained by trellis planing on CNC machines, today this is the most accurate method for producing rifle barrels, which allows you to get a barrel with a deviation from the reference caliber of no more than 2 microns, the chamber unfolds with an axial runout relative to the bore of no more than 2 microns, the body of the bolt group is obtained from stainless martensitic steel, and the central hole was obtained on a CNC electroerosive machine. Many elements are machined in the final hardened state to ensure maximum geometric accuracy. All steel parts of ORSIS T-5000 are made only of stainless steel. Particular care in manufacturing and the choice of high-quality materials allows us to speak of an increased service life compared to traditional ratings for these calibers.
Design ORSIS T-5000
The ORSIS T-5000 SE rifle has a longitudinally sliding rotary bolt with two lugs. The trigger mechanism is made of stainless steel. All basic USM parameters are adjustable. USM is available in two versions: "Hunter" - allows you to adjust the free play and force from 1000 to 1500 g and "Varmint" - allows you to adjust the free play and force from 500 to 900 g. block the shutter, and do not block it in the on position. The metal parts of the rifle are covered with a special ceramic coating for firearms Cerakote® - Black Graphite as standard. The ORSIS T-5000 SE rifle is equipped with a Mil-Std 1913 Picatinny rail for installation optical sight, it is additionally possible to equip with a bracket for installing a pre-objective attachment, there is a mount for a bipod. On the muzzle of the barrel, both a brake-compensator and silent-flameless firing devices can be installed. Trunks can have different lengths and different characteristics. The rifle is not equipped with open sighting mechanical sights. The rifle is fed with cartridges from detachable box magazines with a capacity of 5 or 10 rounds.
The balance and weight of the rifle are designed in such a way that when fired, the recoil goes straight back, which allows you to control the target even during the shot. The effective muzzle brake of the ORSIS SE T-5000 rifle reduces recoil by almost 50%, and the adjustable trigger allows you to shoot without disturbing the quality of aiming. The high rigidity and stability of the stock maintains zero zero even after a long time, and the presence of very carefully made in the factory bedding maintains the accuracy and stability of the rifle indefinitely. Some design decisions were made consciously to improve the accuracy of the weapon, for example, to make the integrated recoil paw no more difficult than the intermediate one, but as a result of consultations with leading American gunsmiths, specialists in the field of benchrest bolt groups, it was unequivocally believed that the integrated recoil paw gives incorrect vibrations and vibrations of the bolt group during the shot, and this design is less accurate than the intermediate or keyed recoil foot. The presence of an intermediate recoil paw allows you to solve another important problem - "cold break", mutual grinding of the recoil paw, the end of the body of the bolt group and the end of the barrel allows you to get the maximum mutual fit, which allows you to get a group of shots around the first hole.
The stock of the ORSIS T-5000 rifle is made of aluminum alloy D16T, the folding unit is made of hardened steel and is specially designed in such a way that it does not “break” during operation in the hardest recoil calibers, plastic parts are made from the most high-strength plastics, all connections are only “steel to steel”, for this in the box specially installed steel parts. The butt is equipped with an adjustable cheek and butt pad. Butt pad made of special wear-resistant rubber with height adjustment. The butt in the folded position is securely held by a mechanical lock. Lower and side swivels are installed on the bed for attaching a tactical belt and bipod.
Quality
Operational control was introduced at ORSIS production, and all parts are subjected to instrumental control after each processing cycle, the final assembly is very carefully controlled and fire tests are carried out, verification appearance, the functioning of the mechanisms is checked repeatedly and carefully.

Sniper rifles have always been on a special account among small arms. In order to make a sniper rifle, they always chose the most reliable model of a standard rifle, which was distinguished by high build quality and was significantly improved. Modern tendencies require not only constant upgrades of existing sniper weapons, but also the creation of completely new high-precision models.
Requirements that new models of sniper rifles must meet
Russian weapons have always been famous for their stable quality and low price. Of course, one should not expect any outstanding results from him, but the models of Tokarev, Kalashnikov, Degtyarev and Mosin are known to gun lovers around the world. The most famous sniper rifles are the old Mosinka, originally from 1931, and the SVD, which is still the most popular sniper weapon in the Russian army.
Although at one time the SVD was one of the best sniper rifles in the world, now it is a fairly outdated weapon and is inferior to many modern foreign counterparts. Numerous attempts to upgrade the SVD, which were supposed to solve the issue of increasing the flight range by increasing the caliber, did not give positive results. That is why now the SVD is used mainly only by army snipers. Most of the special groups preferred to arm themselves with foreign-made sniper rifles and carbines.
To neutralize the enemy at long distances, a class of weapons is used - sniper rifles. They are unusually difficult to manufacture, and when designing, gunsmiths take into account thousands of little things: mechanics, materials, ergonomics. Rifles of this type make up a weapon complex of the weapon itself, optical instruments and a cartridge.
In Russia, sniper weapons are in service with the fighters of law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Armed Forces of the Russian Federation). Foreign products are used there, but everything changed in 2011 - the T-5000 rifle appeared.
History of creation
The development of the ORSIS T-5000 tactical sniper rifle began in May 2011 in Moscow by the Promtekhnologii Group of Companies, and already in September of the same year it was shown to the general public as part of an arms exhibition in Nizhny Tagil. An interesting fact is that, unlike all other arms manufacturers in Russia, this company is financed by private investors.
Of course, the new rifle was not adopted immediately. First, numerous tests were carried out in the field. To do this, the samples were sent to law enforcement agencies, which immediately showed interest in a possible domestic replacement of imported products. Operatives of the FSB, FSO and the Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly sent comments to the designers, which allowed the gunsmiths to correct shortcomings and flaws in the development process.
The main ideological inspirer and creator of the T-5000 ORSIS sniper rifle was Gen. director of "Promtekhnologii" and former professional shooter A. Sorokin. He personally developed the working scheme of ORSIS and its main sketches. A former Vympel operative also played a special role in the fate of this weapon, and today CEO“TSNIITOCHMASH”, D. Semizorov.
In particular, modified samples of the T-5000 were exhibited at the TsNIITOCHMASH stands in June 2012.
Close interest in this weapon was also aroused by the victory of the fighters of the special forces "Alpha" of the FSB at the World Championship in sniper shooting which took place in Hungary. Fighters “A” performed on it equipped with an ORSIS rifle.
The T-5000 is regularly purchased by Russian law enforcement agencies. Recently, their foreign colleagues have begun to look closely at it. This rifle entered the army of our country recently, only in 2015. This was due to the status of the manufacturer.
Unlike Western countries, Russian army weapons are supplied from state-owned factories and Promtekhnologii, this is the only exception so far.
Design
T-5000 is made of metal. Plastic and wood - no. Even the stock is a solid aluminum element. The rejection of such materials is dictated by the goals that the developers pursued when creating this rifle - this is high-precision shooting, reliability and reliability. According to the manufacturer's representatives, their weapons are capable of effectively operating in the temperature range from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius.
The ORSIS barrel is made of stainless steel, along its length there are valleys designed to give additional rigidity and act as a radiator for additional cooling. A muzzle compensator, gill type, is installed at the end of the barrel. Depending on the cartridge used, 4 or 6 longitudinal (well, not longitudinal, apparently screw) rectangular grooves are made in the bore.
As mentioned above, the stock is made from a single piece of aluminum. The choice of material is dictated by strength and heat resistance. The energy when fired would simply break the stock of polymers or wood. The forearm has a special mount for bipods from different manufacturers.
The pistol grip improves the already high ergonomics of the weapon.
ORSIS has no open sights. The rifle is designed for shooting at long distances and it is more convenient to use optical devices for the sight. Suitable, for example, domestic "Dedalus". A Piccatini rail is used to mount the scope. Also, pre-sighting equipment for night shooting is installed on the receiver: a noctovisor or a thermal imager. Side mount for rangefinder.
The receiver itself is made of heavy-duty metal and is attached to the stock with epoxy resin. Ammunition is supplied by a magazine for 5 or 10 rounds. There are also 20 charges, but they are non-standard and are ordered separately.
The length and height of the butt can be adjusted according to the desire of the shooter. Increases stability when shooting adjustable monopod. The butt, for ease of transportation, can be folded to the left and fixed with a magnetic lock. This reduces the overall length of the product.
To improve accuracy, it was decided to abandon the self-loading system. Instead, a bolt group is used, made of special, stainless steel. The shutter itself is longitudinally sliding, rotary. After each shot, you have to manually withdraw it to extract the cartridge case. By returning the bolt to its original position, the cartridge is recharged and the mainspring is cocked.
For the safety of ORSIS there is a fuse. It works in three modes:
- blocking mode. Completely blocks the possibility of a shot;
- free shooting mode;
- partial blocking mode. It is used during the analysis of the rifle.
The fuse itself is of a flag type and is mounted at the rear of the bolt.
The trigger mechanism deserves special mention. It is designed specifically for this rifle and can be adjusted to smooth pressure. This allows you to achieve a more accurate shot, because the shooter is not distracted by unnecessary efforts.
More recently, a modification of ORSIS called T-5000m was introduced. The main difference from the original model was the presence of a new casing around the receiver. It can be called a whole complex for customizing weapons for yourself.
On this casing there are various mounts for body kits and, most importantly, these mounts can be safely moved along the entire length of the receiver.
The changes also affected the muzzle brake. Instead of 4 taps on it, there were 6 of them, which further enhanced the effect. The store shaft has changed slightly. The butt now pivots to the right.
Purpose and technical characteristics
The main goal of creating the t-5000 ORSIS sniper rifle is to conduct effective, and most importantly accurate, long-range fire. Accuracy allows you to hit a target with a diameter less than the caliber of a rifle at a distance of 100 meters. First of all, it is intended for operational groups of law enforcement agencies and for army snipers, but the private market is also in the interests of the creators.
The rifle itself is based on a sports model, which is not surprising for this class of products, and is designed for popular Western ammunition. This is dictated not only by the law of the market, but also in the absence of adequate domestic analogues for them.
The ORSIS rifle is also used in other areas. In particular, it is popular with professional athletes who often compete in competitions. For them, the main thing in a weapon is its accuracy, and the t-5000 has a high rate of this characteristic. Even this weapon was chosen by hunters. What is the secret of the high accuracy of ORSIS
The T-5000 sniper rifle manufactured by Promtekhnologii is rightfully considered the most accurate in Russia and even abroad. Such an assessment is difficult to earn, especially given the numerous foreign samples that are widespread within our country. What is the secret of her success?
First of all, a similar indicator of accuracy is achieved by a unique barrel manufacturing technology. Prior to Promtekhnologiya, this technology was used only in one company located in the United States. The meaning of this technological process is in single-pass cutting. The whole process is carried out on a special machine controlled by a complex software.
The machine itself, like the rifle, is completely domestically produced.
Typically, this technology is used only in the manufacture of rifles to order. It is very expensive, but also extremely effective. By setting up stream production, Promtekhnologii Group of Companies achieved an error of 1 micron for each barrel.
But the T-5000 ORSIS rifle consists of more than just a barrel. It is undoubtedly important, but other elements also play a role. Each element of the design is carefully processed and customized. And the high reliability of materials does not allow the body to deform after a shot.
Another component is cartridges and optics. And if everything is fine with optics in Russia, then the ammunition for such rifles is extremely bad. Therefore, we had to use Western cartridges.
By creating the T-5000, Russian gunsmiths proved their ability to produce high-precision sniper weapons. The cartridge used there is not domestic, but this does not prevent this weapon from gaining its place among best rifles all over the world.

It has versatile tactical capabilities that allow it to provide combat operations at any time of the day, in any weather. A sniper armed with it is able to immediately begin combat missions. This balanced weapon is capable of hitting the enemy at a distance of up to one and a half kilometers without prior technical training and sighting.
Army needs a new sniper rifle
Let's remember history. The T 5000 replaced the one developed in the 60s chambered for 7.62 mm by 54 mm. It is limited in range - up to medium distance. Sighting range - 400 m - allowed it to be used effectively in the hostilities of the 20th century.
However, in the 21st century, the concept of sniping has changed. The firing range of 1 km has become relevant. Based on physics, to increase it, respectively, it is necessary to increase the caliber. However, in practice, this step regarding the Dragunov rifle turned out to be unpromising.
Firstly, the modification of the SVDK, “sharpened” for a 9 mm cartridge, added in weight, which caused snipers to complain about fatigue from firing from unstable states. However main disadvantage was "hidden" in the cartridge itself, developed by Wilhelm Brenecke at the beginning of the 20th century. The work of the German gunsmith had proportions that were not optimal for long-range shooting: a relatively large bullet mass with a relatively small sleeve. Accordingly, the energy of the powder gases turned out to be insufficient for aimed shooting over 400 m.
The futility of further modernization of the SVD became clear to Russian designers. Sniper rifles of the world (German DSR - 1, American M-110, Israeli M-89 SR, English L-96) have already crossed the sniping line of 1 km. This temporary tactical advantage had to be eliminated.
Create a basic enterprise
For tactical support of operations, an innovative rifle was required, corresponding to the class of the best foreign models. The Promtekhnologii group of companies acted as an investor in the creation of the Orsis enterprise, whose mission was to design the Russian T 5000 sniper rifle. The Orsis enterprise (Weapon Systems) implemented a full production cycle: from the manufacture of all parts to the assembly of the rifle itself.
By the end of 2011, the manufacturers have completed the most important task - to reach the level of the best foreign developments. According to Alexander Kostin, Head of Public Relations at Promtekhnologii Group, no more than five companies in the world currently demonstrate such a level.
Trunk
One of the technological advantages of Orsis is the use of innovative high-grade stainless steel alloys. However, this was not enough. After all, the best sniper rifles in the world owe much of their accuracy to barrel rifling.
A short and strenuous path was chosen: to immediately enter the industrial cutting of the trunk. Russian gunsmiths have switched from mandrelling to single-pass trellis planing with a CNC machine. Such machines were created with the help of German and Swiss specialists and components. The developers did not reinvent the wheel. The starting point for the creation of Russian threaded machines was their British counterparts for single-pass cutting. Their “brain and heart” was the unique CNC from Promtekhnologii. As a result, a new technology was born, in which the deviation from the basic accuracy does not exceed two microns.
The barrel of the new sniper weapon is equipped with longitudinal lobes that provide additional rigidity and cooling. An important detail of the created weapon is a three-chamber muzzle brake-compensator developed by Orsis in-house. When sniping over long distances, it comes unfastened, while the firing range increases.
Shutter group. Two rifle options
Carbine t 5000 belongs to the class of "tactical rifles". And modern tactics, as already mentioned, involve sniping both at a medium distance (400-500 m) and at a long distance (about 1 km).
In connection with the above, the designers proposed two basic options. The first (medium-range) used a standard bolt group, designed for a standard 7.62 mm cartridge. The second option (long-range) is characterized by a longer bolt group serving the 8.58 mm Magnum cartridge.
The increase in effective range was achieved by increasing the caliber of the cartridge to 8.58 mm by 69 mm.
Another constructive achievement was that the Russian T 5000 sniper rifles have increased safety in operation. One of the components of its achievement is a 30 percent margin of safety of the bolt group in relation to the test pressure. With the help of heat treatment (hardening), the strength of the components of the bolt group, made of stainless steel, has been increased. A special one made it possible to give them high-precision spatial geometric dimensions.
Trigger mechanism
Structurally, the trigger mechanism T 5000 is made of several materials. Heat-treated stainless steel is used for the manufacture of the supporting body. Internal parts are made of steel grade 40 x 13 (from which scalpels are made). The lids are made of titanium alloy. The mechanism is isolated, simple, reliable, easy to repair.
The free travel and force for the Hunter system trigger is 1-1.5 kg; and for Varmint - 0.5-0.9 kg.
Convenience for the shooter
The Orsis T-5000 rifle, as experts admit, turned out to be convenient for a sniper. The shooter's hand without tension is located on the pistol-type handle, the adjustable butt easily adjusts to his anthropometry. When transferring the weapon to the stowed state, the buttstock is removed to the side and secured with a special magnetic lock. The Picattini bar allows you to use (they will be discussed below).
However, what is the main convenience of the T-5000 for a sniper? In combat properties that allow you to effectively perform complex combat missions. Its mechanics are surprisingly verified and, accordingly, remarkable accuracy characteristics have been achieved. Glass-bedding technology compensates for the significant impact of torque from the passage of a bullet, the force acting on the screws securing the barrel to the stock, and the recoil force. Thanks to a special epoxy bed for the bolt group (which, in fact, is called “glass-bedding”), its reliable fit to the stock is ensured and, as a result, “the sight does not go astray” over time.
The rifle is ergonomic, provides a low level of recoil and, importantly, after the shot, the sight remains on the target. The latter is important to see the result of shooting, because the rate of fire (20 rounds per minute) allows you to fire an additional shot to kill.
Design and performance characteristics
The design basis for the creation of the T 5000 rifle is classified as a multiply charged bolt group equipped with two combat front stops. It is equipped with a bolt action, stainless steel barrel and trigger mechanism. The metal parts of the weapon are made as matte, the coating is wear-resistant, blued (Cerakote), developed by NIK-Industries.
Aluminum alloy serves as a material for the manufacture of the T-5000 stock. The high-precision sniper rifle is equipped with a 12 x 56 series sight in a steel case with a multilayer lens coating and water protection. Its specifications are: 12x magnification and 56mm objective lens diameter.

Rifle trials
What did the official presentation of the newly created T 5000 show? The high-precision sniper rifle for the first time officially demonstrated its combat properties in the fall of 2011 at the VIII International Arms Exhibition in Nizhny Tagil. The demonstration show was produced by Dmitry Semizorov, a specialist in sniper shooting recognized in Russia and in the world. The targets were located at the lines of 540, 300 and 100 meters.
The test shooting results were more than successful. The center of shooting strictly coincided with the center of the target. This was facilitated by the design features introduced by Promtekhnologii specialists: an innovative cartridge positioning system in the firing mechanism and deliberately accurate balancing of the rifle, which led to the fact that the recoil occurs strictly horizontally, without taking the sight away from the target. Bullet departure from the sighting line at a distance of 100 m, the same as for german rifle DSR-1, was only a few millimeters. It is not surprising that the Orsis T 5000, so effectively presented, received positive reviews, and Russian anti-terrorist and special power units immediately wished to adopt it.
Conclusion
In June 2012, at the World Championship in sniper shooting in Hungary, the first place was taken by the Russian Alfa, performing with domestic Orsis T 5000 sniper rifles. From the same year, this weapon began to enter service with anti-terrorist and special power units. In addition, it is also made for sale.
Does it have any disadvantages? For a long time we tried to find them on the Internet. To be honest, it didn't work. Only two wishes to the designers caught my eye. First: to refine the cut-off between the "current" cartridge, i.e. fed into the chamber, and following him. Second (it is subjective): increase the capacity of the store.

Developed by the team arms company"PROMTECHNOLOGIA" under the leadership of the General Designer A.M. Sorokin, taking into account the comments and refinements of the veteran of the special purpose unit "Vympel" D.Yu. Semizorov. The brand name ORSIS comes from the Latinized syllabic abbreviation of the phrase "Weapon Systems".

Basic information
ORSIS T-5000 executed according to the skeletal scheme. Represents repeating rifle with manual reloading with the classic scheme of a longitudinally sliding rotary bolt, locking the bore on two lugs.
All external metal surfaces of the rifle are coated with a non-reflective cerakote-type ceramic coating (Cerakote, a solution developed by the American company NIC Industries), which provides, in particular, high wear resistance of parts.
